September quickies

Not a lot to show for September. But something’s (again) better than nothing.

In May I noted that I’d begun exploring what I can do with digital tools for producing drawing and painting effects using my limited equipment — no iPad or Cintiq-style device, just a cheap Wacom USB pad plugged into my laptop here. As things have worked out, I’ve been a bit more ambitious with those tools this year than I thought then I was likely to be. The principal project that has to do with I’ll have to come back to in another post. In this one, though, I include an example of recent exercise, partly toward improving feel for what I can do with this pad as drawing instrument without pulling my hair out, partly toward reinforcing certain Photoshop fundamentals.

head doodles! — some attended to more thoughtfully than others

digital drawing / color exercise(drawn without recourse to reference; doesn’t look, now that I think about it, like an especially comfortable way to play for any length of time)

  • I appreciate the patience and persistence!

More play than work, what’s represented in these posts, I want to say, the ‘habit cultivating’ frame of mind — but yeah, the work side is there, no question.
