Bouie gets the punishment
Marvel Studios’ big summer splash has come and (I hear) has been big. I had occasion to mention it anticipatorily a few weeks back in a longer post — a post not about its blockbuster headline character but about one of its superhero-property inclusions, the vigilante killer Punisher.
Columnist and movie buff of note Jamelle Bouie, taking up pop film in a talk video out over the weekend, doesn’t concern himself with Marvel’s contributions but does have in view the pulp / Hollywood subgenre Punisher has its roots firmly in. In focus for him here is wretched recent production Citizen Vigilante, more than wretchedly so titled, which arrives in 2026 as something of a summer media event in its own right. I hadn’t been aware of this, I’m not sorry to say, and would just as soon not know more about the thing itself than I’ve now learned. Its appearance bears remarking on nevertheless.
